Rippling Pricing in 2026: What Startups Actually Pay

Rippling does publish a price, even though its pricing page is mostly a quote form. As of October 2026, the FAQ on Rippling’s US pricing page says plans "start at $8 per employee per month, with a monthly base fee." That $8 is the entry price for the required core platform. Payroll, benefits and time tracking each stack on top, so the number on your quote depends on how many modules you add and how many people you run through them.

Using Rippling’s own starting prices, a US startup running HRIS and payroll (billed annually) pays roughly $200 a month at 10 employees and $1,640 at 100, at list price. Add benefits administration and time tracking and that becomes $270 and $2,340. The 100-person figure lands inside Rippling’s own estimate of $15-25 per employee per month for that setup, and the per-employee figures for 10 to 50 people sit inside the range Vendr reports from its anonymized deal data. One big caveat: eligible US VC-backed startups can get Rippling free for six months, which changes year-one math more than any discount.

Below: what Rippling publishes and where its own pages disagree, the cost at 10, 25, 50 and 100 employees, what buyers report paying, the costs outside the per-employee price, how to tighten a quote, and the same headcounts priced on Gusto, Justworks, Deel and BambooHR. Startup Yeti doesn’t sell payroll or HR software.

What Rippling publishes, and what it only quotes

Rippling sells a required core platform plus optional modules. Most products are priced PEPM, short for per employee per month, and some products add a flat monthly base fee on top. Rippling’s pricing FAQ puts it this way: most products are priced per employee per month, "while some may include a monthly base fee."

Here is what Rippling’s own pages state, as of October 2026:

  • Platform and HRIS: from $8 PEPM. HRIS (human resources information system) is the employee database everything else plugs into.
  • Base fee: $40 a month, per Rippling’s small-business page. One Rippling blog post (updated Aug 31 2026) says $35 instead, and garbles the unit as "per employee per month." The $40 figure is on a product page with the correct unit, so it’s the one used in the math below.
  • US payroll: $8 PEPM billed annually, or $10 PEPM billed monthly, according to Rippling’s payroll review (updated Jun 17 2026). The same page confirms you cannot buy Rippling Payroll without the HRIS.

One wording conflict to know about: Rippling’s small-business page says plans "start at $8 per user per month for payroll," which reads like $8 in total. Its payroll review prices the core HRIS platform and payroll separately at $8 each, and the Forbes quote and Vendr’s size bands below fit that reading, so the math in this article adds them.

The rest of the module prices come from Rippling-authored blog posts, not from the pricing page. Treat them as starting references, not a rate card:

Module Starting price (Rippling’s figure) Rippling source and date
Time and attendance $2 PEPM Comparison post, Nov 20 2025
Benefits administration $5 PEPM or $20 PEPM Nov 20 2025 post says $5; Nov 17 2025 post says $20
Global payroll $32-35 PEPM Posts dated Nov 17 and Nov 20 2025
Employer of Record (EOR) $499 per employee per month EOR roundup, updated Sep 14 2026
Global contractors $30 per contractor per month Comparison post, Nov 20 2025
Contractor of Record $325 per contractor per month Comparison post, Nov 20 2025
Global benefits $20 PEPM Comparison post, Nov 20 2025
IT and device management, Spend, PEO, Recruiting No public price found (quote only) Forbes Advisor lists IT and Spend as "Custom quote"

The benefits line is the one to watch. Two Rippling posts dated three days apart give prices four times apart, and nothing in Rippling’s material says which is current. The $5 figure fits Rippling’s own all-in estimate better, as the next section shows, but that doesn’t prove which price is current. Get the real number in writing.

Two definitions you will need on a quote. A PEO (professional employer organization) co-employs your US staff so they join its benefits plans. An EOR legally employs someone in another country on your behalf. Rippling sells both; only the EOR has a starting price in Rippling’s own material.

Why do some guides say Rippling publishes nothing at all? Rippling’s site serves different versions by country. The UK version of the pricing page describes per-employee billing and an occasional base fee but shows no dollar figure. If you read that version, $8 looks invented. It isn’t, on the US page.

What Rippling costs at 10, 25, 50 and 100 employees

These are list-price illustrations built from the dated Rippling figures above, as of October 2026. They are not quotes, and they exclude discounts, payroll taxes and insurance premiums.

  • Setup A, HRIS + US payroll (billed annually): $40 + $16 per employee
  • Setup B, Setup A + benefits admin at $5 + time and attendance at $2: $40 + $23 per employee
  • Setup B at $20 benefits, if the higher Rippling figure is the real one: $40 + $38 per employee
Employees Setup A per month (per year) Setup B per month (per year) Setup B with $20 benefits, per month (per year)
10 $200 ($2,400) $270 ($3,240) $420 ($5,040)
25 $440 ($5,280) $615 ($7,380) $990 ($11,880)
50 $840 ($10,080) $1,190 ($14,280) $1,940 ($23,280)
100 $1,640 ($19,680) $2,340 ($28,080) $3,840 ($46,080)

Inputs: $8 HRIS and $8 payroll PEPM and the $40 base fee from Rippling’s payroll review and small-business page; $2 time and $5 or $20 benefits from Rippling posts dated November 2025. With the $35 base fee from the other Rippling post, subtract $5 a month. If you choose monthly billing, payroll is $10, so add $2 per employee per month: $20 a month at 10 people, $200 a month at 100.

The base fee is why small teams pay more per head. Setup B works out to $27 per employee at 10 people and $23.40 at 100. A flat $40 barely registers at 100 people; at 10 it adds $4 to every seat.

Three cross-checks, one from Rippling and two from outside it, put these numbers in the right neighborhood:

  1. Rippling’s own estimate. Its HRIS review (updated Aug 31 2026) says a 100-person company on HRIS, payroll, benefits admin and time and attendance should "expect to pay roughly $15-25 per employee per month." Setup B at 100 is $23.40. Setup B with $20 benefits is $38.40, well outside that range. So $5 is the benefits figure consistent with Rippling’s own estimate, though neither post says which price is current.
  2. A reviewer’s quote. Forbes Advisor’s Rippling review (audited Jul 3 2026) says its phone research team was quoted $15 per person for a team of 10, for payroll alone. That’s $150 a month. Forbes doesn’t say when the quote was given or whether it includes the base fee.
  3. Buyer data. Vendr’s analysis puts teams of 10-50 employees at $15-35 PEPM for the base platform plus two to four modules. Setup B at 10, 25 and 50 people lands between $23.80 and $27.

If your headcount is about to change fast, price the quote at the headcount you expect in twelve months. Our guide to hiring for startups covers how to work out which roles you need next.

What buyers report paying

Vendr’s Rippling page is the only public source of buyer-reported Rippling contract values we found. Vendr is a software procurement company; its figures come from anonymized purchases it has seen. As read in October 2026 (page text last updated February 2026):

  • Median annual contract: $45,645, or about $3,803.75 a month
  • Range: $5,860 to $186,673 a year
  • Sample: "289 purchases, with buyers saving 15% on average." The header of the same page says 202 deals and 14.73% average savings, so the counts don’t fully agree.
  • Vendr’s size bands: 10-50 employees at $15-35 PEPM (another section says $15-30) with annual contract values of $5,000-20,000; 50-250 employees at $20-40 PEPM

The median covers every configuration and company size in Vendr’s data, so don’t divide it by your headcount. It tells you nothing about a 20-person startup’s price on its own.

The size band is more useful, and it raises one flag. Setups A and B at 10 people ($2,400 and $3,240 a year) fall below the $5,000 floor of Vendr’s contract-value band for 10-50 employees; only the $20-benefits version ($5,040) clears it. Buyers in Vendr’s data may be buying more modules, more seats or paying monthly; Vendr doesn’t break the band down, so we can’t tell which. Read it as a sign that a real quote may come in above the bare starting-price math.

Costs that aren’t in the per-employee price

Implementation. As of October 2026, Rippling’s startups page says most startups take 1-3 weeks to set up, and that an Implementation Manager will guide data import, benefits setup and the first payroll run "free of charge," across about three calls. Rippling also offers a "consultative implementation service" for complex needs, with no published price. Vendr’s analysis (page text dated February 2026) puts implementation fees at $2,000-15,000+. If you’re a startup, ask for the free guided setup to be written into the order form.

Billing cadence. Monthly billing costs more. On payroll alone it’s $10 instead of $8 per employee (Rippling’s payroll review, June 2026), an extra $2,400 a year at 100 people.

Contract term and renewal. Rippling’s own blog posts say "there are no long-term contracts." That’s a marketing statement; the actual term, auto-renewal clause and renewal price live in your order form and aren’t public. Vendr reports that multi-year deals commonly earn 10-25% discounts and annual prepayment an extra 5-10%, and that modules added mid-contract are usually priced at list. The negotiating logic is the same one we walked through for what Salesforce actually costs: the list price is where the negotiation starts.

Off-cycle payroll abroad. Off-cycle runs (bonuses, corrections, final pay) are free and unlimited where Rippling runs its own payroll, including the US. In some EOR and global payroll countries that use local partners, Rippling charges a $50 administrative fee per employee, per run (Rippling’s payroll review, June 2026).

Global hires. The EOR starts at $499 per employee per month and global contractors at $30 per contractor per month (Rippling blog figures above). One EOR hire ($499 a month) costs more than Setup A for a 25-person US team ($440).

Support level. Rippling says dedicated Account Managers and Technical Account Managers apply "over a $50k ACV threshold" (ACV is annual contract value; Rippling post, Nov 2025). Setup B at 100 people is $28,080 a year at list, well under that threshold, so a team this size shouldn’t expect a dedicated account manager.

Not software cost at all. Employer payroll taxes and benefits premiums are paid whatever platform you pick. Keep them out of the vendor comparison, but in the budget.

The startup program

As of October 2026, Rippling’s pricing FAQ says it "gives eligible US VC-backed startups free access to Rippling for 6 months," with availability depending on "funding status and stage." The pricing page gives no further eligibility detail.

If you qualify, it’s the biggest lever on year-one cost in this article: six free months outweigh any discount range reported here. Before you sign, ask:

  • Which modules the free period covers (payroll, benefits, time, or the platform only)
  • What price applies in month seven, and whether it’s locked for the rest of the term
  • Whether the contract term starts at signing or after the free months
  • Whether the free guided implementation still applies

If you’re also budgeting cap table software, our breakdown of Carta’s pricing covers another quote-based tool startups buy at the same stage.

How to get a better Rippling quote

Ask for each of these in writing before you sign:

  1. Every module listed with its own PEPM. A blended number hides which module is expensive.
  2. The base fee amount. Rippling’s pages say $40 and $35; your quote should say one.
  3. The platform tier. Forbes lists Core and Pro versions of the platform, with Workflow Studio, webhooks and advanced reports in Pro only. Know which one is priced.
  4. Billing cadence. Annual versus monthly changes the payroll rate.
  5. Term, auto-renewal and a renewal cap. "No long-term contracts" in a blog post is not a clause in your contract.
  6. Implementation in writing, including whether the free startup setup applies.
  7. Prices for modules you might add later, locked now. Vendr says mid-contract additions usually come at list.
  8. The startup program, if you’re VC-backed, with the month-seven price stated.
  9. Your multi-year option. Vendr’s 10-25% multi-year range is a reasonable reference to ask against, but only commit to years you’re confident about.

Rippling alternatives, priced

These are the list prices on each vendor’s own pricing page as of October 2026. ADP RUN and TriNet are left out: neither showed a public price on the pages we read.

Option Published price Contract Worth knowing
Gusto Simple $49/mo + $6 per person; Plus $80/mo + $12; Premium $180/mo + $22 "Month-to-month. Cancel anytime." Simple covers payroll in one state; multi-state payroll and built-in time tracking start on Plus
Justworks Payroll $8 per employee + $50/mo base; PEO Basic $79, PEO Plus $124 per employee; EOR $599 per employee Billed monthly; long-term terms not published "No Implementation Fee"; PEO needs at least two W-2 employees
Deel US Payroll $29 per employee (self-service); HR Core $5 per employee; EOR $599; contractors $49; US PEO from $110 to $125 depending on the page FAQ says month-to-month PEO promo (3 months of platform fees free) needs a 2-year term, Jul 15 to Dec 31 2026
BambooHR Up to 25 employees: $250/mo Core, $425 Pro, $650 Elite; above 25: $10.25, $17.50 or $25 per employee Month-to-month or longer term Payroll is an add-on with no price on the pricing page; 15% off when you combine Payroll and Benefits Admin

The same headcounts at list price as of October 2026, per month. The Rippling column is Setup A (HRIS + payroll) from above:

Employees Rippling A Gusto Simple Gusto Plus Gusto Premium Justworks Payroll Deel US Payroll + HR Core BambooHR Core (HRIS only)
10 $200 $109 $200 $400 $130 $340 $250
25 $440 $199 $380 $730 $250 $850 $250
50 $840 $349 $680 $1,280 $450 $1,700 $512.50
100 $1,640 $649 $1,280 $2,380 $850 $3,400 $1,025

Inputs: each vendor’s base fee plus its per-person rate times headcount. Deel is $29 payroll plus $5 HR Core per employee. BambooHR above 25 employees uses $10.25 before its automatic volume discounts and excludes the unpriced payroll add-on, so it isn’t a payroll comparison. Plans differ in what they include, so treat this as a list-price comparison and check features separately.

What the table says: at list, Rippling’s HRIS and payroll cost more than Gusto Simple and Justworks Payroll at every headcount here. It matches Gusto Plus at 10 people and runs above it from 25 up. It comes in below Gusto Premium and well below Deel’s US Payroll plus HR Core at every size.

How to use that:

  • Price Gusto if you want month-to-month terms and a published price you can check without a call. Simple works for single-state teams; Plus is the like-for-like plan once you hire in a second state.
  • Price Justworks if you want payroll at $8 per employee plus a $50 monthly base fee, with no implementation fee, or a PEO with a public price (from $79 per employee).
  • Price Deel if most of your hires are outside the US. Its EOR is $599 per employee on its pricing page; Rippling’s blog says its own starts at $499, so ask Rippling to confirm that figure in a quote.
  • Price BambooHR if HR records come first and payroll can wait. Up to 25 people it’s a flat $250 a month for Core, but you’ll need a quote for its payroll add-on.

Is Rippling worth it at your stage?

At October 2026 list prices, the premium over Gusto Simple and Justworks Payroll is real at every headcount in the table. At 25 people, Setup A is $440 a month against $250 on Justworks Payroll, about $2,280 more a year before any discount.

What that premium buys is one system for HR records, payroll and, for an extra quoted price, IT and spend. Whether that’s worth it depends on whether you’ll actually use the quoted modules. If you’re 15 people in one state and just need payroll to run, the published-price tools cover the job for less. If you’re VC-backed, the six-month startup program can wipe out the first half of year one: if it covers the modules you need, Rippling costs nothing for those months. Just check what month seven costs.

The practical next step is to write down your expected headcount in twelve months and the modules you’ll really use, get a Rippling quote against that list, and price Gusto Plus and Justworks at the same headcount so you have a number to negotiate against.

FAQ

How much does Rippling cost per employee?

As of October 2026, Rippling’s US pricing page says plans start at $8 per employee per month plus a monthly base fee, which Rippling’s small-business page puts at $40. HRIS plus US payroll billed annually works out to about $16 per employee plus the base fee at list. Rippling’s own estimate for a 100-person company on HRIS, payroll, benefits and time tracking is $15-25 per employee per month.

Does Rippling have a free plan or free trial?

Not that we found for HR and payroll. Forbes Advisor lists "Free Trial: None" for its HR and payroll product (review audited Jul 3 2026). The closest thing to free is the startup program: Rippling’s pricing FAQ offers eligible US VC-backed startups free access for six months, depending on funding status and stage.

Does Rippling charge an implementation fee?

As of October 2026, Rippling’s startups page says guided implementation for startups, including the first payroll run, is free of charge and takes most startups 1-3 weeks. A consultative implementation service for complex setups has no published price. Vendr’s analysis (February 2026) puts implementation fees at $2,000-15,000+.

Is Rippling cheaper than Gusto?

Not at list for basic payroll. As of October 2026, Rippling HRIS and payroll cost about $440 a month at 25 employees, against $199 on Gusto Simple and $380 on Gusto Plus. Gusto Premium costs more ($730 at 25). Rippling’s six-month startup program, if you qualify, changes year-one cost.

Does Rippling require an annual contract?

Rippling’s blog posts say there are no long-term contracts, and its payroll review (June 2026) lists a monthly billing rate ($10 per employee) alongside the annual rate ($8). The actual term, auto-renewal and renewal increases are set in your order form and aren’t public, so ask for them in writing.

How much do Rippling EOR and PEO cost?

Rippling’s blog says its EOR starts at $499 per employee per month (updated Sep 14 2026); the EOR product page shows no price. We found no published price for Rippling PEO as of October 2026, so treat it as quote only.
